Opening Times:
January – February:
Tuesday – Saturday from 10AM until 4PM.
March to Mid-August:
Tuesday – Saturday from 9AM until 5PM.
It is advised to phone ahead in August to ensure the Nursery is open.
Due to seasonal restrictions, the Nursery is closed from mid-August to January.
Please note that stock cannot be guaranteed towards August.
Our History:
The Old Rose Nursery has a history spanning over 50 years, founded in 1966 by Reg Banham, the Nursery was originally called Rose View Nurseries, and specialised in old fashioned roses. Reg used to grow upwards of 40,000 roses each year and targeted them at the wholesale market, selling to all corners of the UK and abroad.
In the 1980’s the Nursery changed its target market – no longer focusing on wholesale, but on connecting the general public with top quality roses at a reasonable price.
I started working with my father and the roses from a very early age, from as long as I can remember I have been surrounded by roses and horticulture.
I took over the Nursery in the late 90’s and decided to focus purely on container roses, and although the scale of the Nursery is much smaller than it used to be, the eye for quality remains. I’m always on the lookout for the healthiest plants and don’t stock anything that I wouldn’t personally have in my garden.

The Old Rose Nursery is situated only one and a half miles away from the famous gardens of Great Dixter, many people visit Great Dixter and then head on to the Nursery.
The Nursery is also home to Bespoke Quality Buildings, a family business specialising in bespoke timber buildings, who have many sale buildings on display.
We also feature a small shop selling oak benches, pots, metal obelisks and other excellent features for any garden.
